We had our Web Internship Online meet up last Sunday with Jay Pasana and his team. He is my mentor for web design. 🙂
Part of working from home is honing your skills in different things. The great thing about it is that you can choose which skills you want to focus on. I prefer to focus on the skills that I love doing and one thing that I want to learn is Web Design, with specific focus on wordpress. I am not talking about the free wordpress which i wordpress.com. What we're talking about here is wordpress.org where you need to pay for your own web hosting and domain name.
WordPress is very easy to use. Although there is a bit of a learning curve, once you get the hang of it, and with a little bit of patience, you can create all kinds of websites using different themes.
Also, there is only little coding needed so it will save you time and from headaches too.
WordPress also has an extensive range of themes and plug ins that you can use. You can use it for blogs, for your business website, for your online store, etc. In short, it is very versatile.
Right now, we are just starting out with the class and our task was very basic.
We installed wordpress on the hosting provided by Jay and installed the Gazette theme on it.
One thing that I do not like about the Gazette theme is that it is not mobile optimized. Which Google hates. I'll ask Jay if they have other themes available that is mobile optimized. 🙂
That's my affiliate link above if you want to check out Thrive Themes.
How about you? What are you studying now? Tell us about it in the comments.
